Edelkrone VS axiiio

You've asked for it...

Hello, axiiio fans!

Edelkrone VS axiiio - a lot of people have asked this question so here goes…

Edelkrone, like axiiio, makes primarily motion control equipment. They've been in the game for a while and have a loyal fanbase. They do make good products, but there are some key differences between their stuff and ours that we think give axiiio the upper hand.

We're building a rig at the moment for filming flames in slow motion (we'll be talking more about this in a future newsletter). This rig's slider can move about 1.6 m (5.3 feet) in 7 ½ seconds. That means it's moving at 21.3cm/second (8.4 in/sec) at its fastest speed.

Compare this with Edelkrone systems new Slide Module v3 which has a published maximum speed (on a tripod) of 6.42 cm/sec (2.52 in/sec) making axiiio's slider capabilities 3.3 times faster than the premium Edelkrone slider. Additionally, if you put the Edelkrone slider on the ground it moves at half this speed.

The rotational axis in the axiiio system can move it up to 420° per second with a large gear installed (changing this gear is very simple and literally requires a couple of seconds). With the small gear installed it can rotate at 213° per second.

Edelkrone's HeadPLUS V2 PRO is glacially slow in comparison maxing out at 18° per second. That's 23 times slower!

Axiiio is also far more accurate than Edelkrone's equipment. Edelkrone's published rotational accuracy for their premium pan-tilt head is 0.022°. axiiio's rotational accuracy (with our new encoder design) is an incredible 0.007°! This is nearly 4 times more accurate than Edelkrone's premium pan-tilt head!

Below is an example of why accuracy is important.

And all of this extra speed and accuracy comes with no weight penalty whatsoever!

But the greatest advantage that the axiiio nano system has over all of Edelkrone's equipment is that it is a system that can be physically re-configured for different tasks. The software (ProMoCo) enables you to create different rigs of your own making for VFX tasks. This is utterly unique and no other system that is available currently enables you to do this.

Roll-axis rig with lens control

What this means, in practical terms, is that you can add motors and axes to your setup as your needs grow. You are not limited to using a pan-tilt head as a pan-tilt head. You can use the two motors on the pan-tilt head for controlling cinema lenses or attach them to other motion pancakes.

Our ultimate goal is to release motion kits for different tasks on which you can reuse your receiver and motors, saving you money whilst enabling multiple tasks using the same components.

If you browse our products page on the website there are examples of some of the different types of rigs that you can build with the axiiio nano system.
